Back to the old days
We've been doing a lot of hard work for the last few weeks on stabilization of a HR Application for one of the largest HR companies in the country.
The app is called Pay-Smart (check it out here) and basically offers a comprehensive info for the paychecks and other HR related info for a bunch of sectors in the country.
They have IT, Telecoms, manufacturing, etc.
But the problem comes from the fact that it is poorly planned/architected and written.
The company that we took over from used ASP 3.0 when they started the development back in 2003 - I wonder who took that decision :).
So now we're working on making something out of this mess - it will stay in ASP, but we find it really difficult to get rid of bunch of things like server-side use of Office Automation, certain bad security decisions and finding a work-around for some problems related to concurrent use of the app - I seems that they never even tested it for such usage - but it might never occurred to them that an ASP app might have to be used from more that 1 concurrent user at some point :).
